A heavY weighT – Creflo Dollar

The word honor means to carry weight, to weigh down, to make heavy. Now, the Bible tells us that God and His Word are one (John 1:1). So, honoring God means that His Word  weighs heavy in your life. No matter what anyone else says, or what’s going on around you, nothing will influence you more than God’s Word. His “logos” Word carries weight with you, and His “rhema” Word carries weight with you. Logos is His written Word, the Bible. His rhema words are those words spoken to you by the Holy Spirit. This means His Word weighs heavy upon the decisions you make, the actions you take, even in the words you speak. So when there’s a decision you have to make, you honor God by saying, “Alright, Lord, in this decision, what does Your Word have to say about this?”

Now, how is giving and tithing an act of honor to God? Proverbs 3:9 tells us: “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”

We’ve already established that we honor God when we allow His Word to weigh heavier than anything else in our lives. But this scripture instructs us to honor the Lord with our substance. I’ve heard many people try to skate around this word. They will say, “Well, that word “substance” is referring to spiritual substance.” No, it’s not! The word substance is referring to money or capital! Proverbs 3:9 in theAmplified Bible declares, “Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income.”

But, how do you honor the Lord with your capital or money? The same way you would honor your mother and father. You give them authority to speak into your life, and as an act of honor, you obey them. That’s what honor means. When you honor God with your substance, you give Him the authority to speak to you concerning your money.

I’ll never forget when I got this revelation. I said, “I’m going to do it. Every time I give, Lord, I’m going to check with You first.” I was in the pulpit when I learned this principle. I said, “Lord, what would You have me to give today?” He said, “Ten thousand dollars.” I said, “Satan, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus! How dare you speak to me while the Lord is talking to me?” Then I said “Lord, was that me, you, or the devil?” He said, “Well, let’s check and see. Did you have that amount on your mind?” I said, “No, sir.” He said, “Do you think the devil wants you to sow $10,000 into the Kingdom?” I said, “No, sir. Okay, it was you, Lord.” I wrote that check out and put it in the bucket, but then I found I had another problem. I watched that bucket go down every aisle, just in case the Lord might say, “My bad, get it back!” And, man, God got me! He said, “Let me tell you something; you’re about to lose because of your bad attitude. When you give grudgingly, and it becomes a burden, you’ll lose out on the harvest from what you’ve sown.” I said, “Oh, God, forgive me. I repent.”

For Believers, giving and tithing is not done by the law. Tithing, for us, is done out of our hearts as an honor to God. It demonstrates our trust in Him. God is not ever going to tell you to do something you can’t do. As you begin to obey and honor Him concerning what He instructs you to give, plenty and overflow will become your portion! So don’t be afraid to say to God, “Whatever you want me to give and sow, and however you want me to do it, Father, I will do it! You’ve given it to me, and I’ll cheerfully give it back to you, because I’m your faithful steward!”

“Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38, AMP).
