Well, it’s the beginning of a new year; characterised with new wishes and resolutions. I say amen to those wishes for you in Jesus name and for the resolutions I wish you the discipline to pull through. While we plan for our personal lives I also wish we do well to plan for our work-lives. By work-life I mean where you spend the much of our awake-hours! What is your work-plan for this year?

Where are we?

Despite the short period of commencement of Federal University Oye-Ekiti is evidently fulfilling the vision of the Federal Government for its establishment, chief amongst which is to make University education accessible and affordable to Nigerians, while other attendant aims and benefits includes job creation and urbanization. All these couldn’t have been achieved without the courageous and selfless effort of the successive leaderships of Prof. Chinedu Nebo (February 2011 – January 2013) and Prof. Isaac Asuzu (January 2013 – date), although not without substantial challenges, nonetheless these men’s ingenious leadership has brought us thus far.

It was Alan Lakin who said, “Vision is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now” and Paul the Apostle also admonished us to “forget those things which are behind, and reach forth unto those things which are before”. What is before us? THE FUOYE PROJECT!

The FUOYE PROJECT needs all hands on the deck. This is not about Management or Council; it’s about everyone who wakes up to pray that God should ‘bless the works of their hands’. Am convinced that each time God hears such prayer he looks down from heaven and examines what we do. Can it be said in the standard of heaven that the work you do (and are being paid for) can attract heaven’s blessing? Paul in his letter to some slaves in Ephesus charged them to work for their masters “as unto God”. This baffles me, but that is the Heaven’s Work Standard – as unto God. Can it be said of you and me that as civil servants we ‘carry out our duties as unto God’?

When I see the way some civil servant carry out religious duties in worship places as against where they work and make their living; the way they treat their religious leaders as against the way they treat their bosses, all I see is gracious hypocrisy – God is not delighted in such.

When I also see leaders lying with impunity and propagate false policies to sooth themselves at workplace and appear elsewhere in the next hour to lead people into God’s presence, I just wonder who they think God is?

Let us turn a fresh leave this year and decide as individual and as an organisation to conduct our activities with utmost sense of civility and decorum, honesty and transparency. Come to work as early as appropriate and get involved in the FOUYE PROJECT.

What is the FUOYE PROJECT? ‘to become an institution of first choice recognised for providing critical opportunities for students success…and engaged in regional and global resources for entrepreneurial education and best practices in engineering and farming technologies…’ is attainable but not without a robust and resourceful staff-strength.

Only three staff of University of Ibadan that started work at the university at the inception witnessed the golden jubilee of the premiere university! What a great honour that was. But beyond all that, the recurring word from their interview was SELFLESSNESS as the virtue possessed by the founding staff member of the University.

All great achievers of the past have been visionary figures – men and women who thought of what could be, rather than what already was, and then swung into action, to bring these things into fruition.

I have the vision of a FUOYE brand that sells itself!

A FUOYE devoted to excellence in teaching, learning and research and developing leaders in many disciplines who make a difference globally, a FUOYE where faculty are engaged with teaching and researches that push the boundaries of human knowledge, a FUOYE that offers unparalleled student experience for students who are excited to study the latest issues and trends of the 21st Century, a FUOYE that offers unlimited vista of opportunity for diligent and ambitious staff member.

And to achieve the above, I strongly propose the following cardinals amongst others:

  • Unparalleled student service
  • Academic innovation
  • Human resource training and development
  • ICT deployment,
  • Staff welfare and
  • Collaborative engagement.

(ENGAGE ME by comment below as to how each of the above cardinals can launch us to an enviable place among the leagues of Universities home and abroad.)

We can achieve the mission of the University! We can attain the FUOYE that I see!

Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push, a word of optimism and hope, a ‘you can do it!’ approach – even when things are tough. Hope is the faith that leads to achievement.

I am confident that my activities as an Admin Officer at Federal University Oye-Ekiti could help me contribute to the educational aspiration of the institution and promote the University motto – Innovation and Character for National Transformation. I will be most fulfilled to contribute my best to the FUOYE story while am here, what about you?

Let me use this medium to wish the Management staff, students and lovers of Federal University Oye-Ekiti a happy resumption and a fruitful year ahead.

Waoh,as i read through i realized this is the blatant truth. I believe moving this Institution forward is a collective responsibility. The Cardinal objectives you itemized are very crucial to facilitating the growth and development of the University.
    1. Unparalleled Student Service: Academic Staff should ensure quality assurance in the delivery of lectures and they should be a mechanism for feed backs from the students. Technologists should assist the lectures during practical sessions via ensuring laboratory apparatus are fully functional and all the safety precautions are adhered to. Administrative Staff should ensure that they contribute their quota to the informal aspect of student life(Accommodation, off Campus student Life, Healthcare etc).
2.Academic Innovation: A University is known by the robustness of its scientific innovation, some courses like aeronautic Engineering can be introduced in the University. The Engineering studio could be made more lively by encouraging the students to construct hand- made cars, grinders, mills, machines etc.

    3. Human Resource Training & Development:This forms one of the cardinal goals of the University ‘Professionalizing our administrative Staff’. This can be achieved via the University sponsoring the administrative staff to attend relevant trainings, workshops and conferences in addition to the TETFUND grants.
    4. ICT Deployment: This is a sensitive issue but I beg to differ, I feel comfortable with the set of personnel on ground, there are qualified professional who are worth their onions and have provided us the relevant trainings.
    5. Staff Welfare& Collaborative Engagement:This are solely in the hands of the Management.
The FUOYE of our dreams begins with you and I.
